WEINICK ESCALANTE RIVER Preserve
Protected in 2025
Acreage: 5
Garfield County, UT

The Weinick Property is a small inholding in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. It protects essential riparian habitat where Calf Creek meets the Escalante River, a popular route walked by thousands of hikers each year.
This river corridor includes Fremont cottonwoods, narrowleaf willow, and native grasses. These trees and willows provide habitat for nesting birds such as golden eagles, and they provide shade and forage for mule deer and other wildlife. The Escalante River is known to be home to Roundtail Chub, Flannelmouth Sucker, and Bluehead Sucker.
Robert Weinick, a bona fide desert defender and a cofounder of the southern utah wilderness alliance, protected the property by conservation easement in December of 2025.
