The Property is located in the Lower Weber River drainage close to the Wilard Bay Reservoir; and consists of significant freshwater emergent wetland and intermountain montane riparian habitat. The Property and the town of Willard is located on an alluvial fan of the receding prehistoric inland ocean Lake Bonneville.
North Willow Creek, which runs through the Property, was surveyed by Henry G Sherwood in 1851 and renamed Willard Creek in 1859 for a recently deceased apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Relocated from Garfield county this preserve features a refurbished pioneer era cabin dating to 1895.
The Property is known to be the site of frequent Shoshone encampments. It is on ancestral Eastern Shoshone, Goshute, and Ute homelands.
