The Stewardship Director is responsible for all aspects of the perpetual preservation of lands held by Utah Open Lands. Stewardship of Utah Open Lands’ protected landscapes requires monitoring properties to ensure protection of the conservation values, enforcing against violations and working to pre-empt possible encroachments, and fostering landowner relationships. By recruiting seasonal monitoring staff hires, field interns and volunteers the Stewardship Director oversees and supervises the regular (at least annual) monitoring of all Utah Open Lands protected landscapes. As part of the cohesive Utah Open Lands team, the Stewardship Director works directly with the Executive Director on conservation easement compliance and agency partnerships and landowner relationship dynamics. The Stewardship Director relies on the Deputy Director for help in staff management and It is an expectation of the Stewardship Director to cultivate public engagement with appropriate properties and to oversee the use of Protected landscapes as ambassadors of the work Utah Open Lands accomplishes. The position is full-time, may require occasional evening and weekend hours, and fieldwork as well as in office work.
