Utah Open Lands: Public Engagement and Outreach Coordinator




Utah Open Lands is seeking a full-time Public Engagement and Outreach Coordinator. The successful candidate will oversee social media platforms, engage in grant writing and assist in organization development, plan and manage the annual event calendar, as well as engage with the public on a regular basis through a number of different platforms. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal skills, will be able to work with a team and independently, and is committed to the mission of Utah Open Lands.



  • Create long-term social media plans, short-term campaigns and annual marketing calendar which corresponds with fundraising goals and event advertising;

  • Build and sustain relationships with our online community by creating consistent and effective social media content;

  • Maintain and update a high volume of donor information, and manage donor acknowledgements in a timely and impeccably accurate manner;

  • Engage in organization development through grant writing for general operations and specific projects, as well as manage the annual grant cycle calendar;

  • Research new sources of funding through grants, partnerships, etc.;

  • Create presentations and speak at outreach events;

  • Manage the annual events calendar, including marketing, social media, registration, logistics of scheduled events, as well as implementing new annual events; and assist with the annual fundraiser;

  • Create visually stunning and informational graphics, including pamphlets, banners, brochures, annual reports, etc., for all department needs;

  • Create design layouts and content for bi-monthly email newsletters and organization website;

  • Coordinate and manage a large number of volunteers/Conservation Ambassadors

  • Engage with the public on a daily basis through fielding phone calls and emails;

  • Other duties as necessary.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing or similar field;

  • Interest and experience in social media marketing and engagement;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in public speaking;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work with the public;

  • Intense attention to detail and highly organized with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive items;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Publisher and Access;

  • Ability to collaborate with a team and work successfully independently;

  • Ability to accept and implement feedback;

  • Commitment to Utah Open Lands’ land-saving mission.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Wix website software;

  • Experience or interest in graphic design and video editing software;

  • Experience managing staff or volunteers

  • 1-3 years’ experience in outreach, marketing for a nonprofit or other organization

  • Experience writing grants and/or other solicitations;

  • Project Management experience, including ability to implement a program or project from start to finish;

  • Familiarity with Utah Open Lands protected properties.

Advertised Salary and Benefits:


Base Salary $30,500 + 10% of base health insurance subsidy + eligible for retirement plan + bonuses
