Emigration Canyon
Acreage: 300
Location: Salt Lake County
Date Completed: 2000
Description: Just eight miles
east of the burgeoning Wasatch Front, the Boyer Company has donated
a sizeable piece of open space to forever protect the watershed, wildlife
habitat and scenic vista in Emigration Canyon. Emigration Canyon has
a heritage dating back to the Pioneers and is no less significant in
the role it plays in the life of Utahns today. With the help of the
Emigration Canyon community, Improvement District, Salt Lake County
and the Boyer Company, Utah Open Lands was able to successfully demonstrate
the benefits of land preservation and protect this acreage from encroaching
development. Utah Open Lands currently owns this property as the Boyer
Company donated it in fee. UOL is now working with the homeowners' association
and Salt Lake County to transfer underlying ownership in the property
to one of these entities while retaining the protective conservation
easement under the umbrella of UOL.
